Mikko was the second youngest orangutan at BOSF Nyaru Menteng Sanctuary when he arrived in February 2010 after being confiscated from a nearby village. This is a very laid-back and sleepy fox indeed. It yawned more than a dozen times during the 10-15 minutes that I was photographing it. I am really amazed at the perfect pearly whites that it has, no cavity! 😀
Orangutan babies solely rely on their mothers for milk, warmth and love; staying close to their mothers for as long as eight years. Ben was born in BOSF Nyaru Menteng, but sadly he was rejected by his mother. With no alternative, the care-takers (or surrogate mothers) have raised Ben lovingly by hand. A family with their weeks-old chick perched on top of a rock during high tide. The parents usually take turn to find food for the chick. Occasionally, the chick gets swapped off their feet into the sea by the strong waves, but it is capable of swimming back and climb back to the same rock and wait for its parents.
